Steam is a distribution and gaming online platform developed by Valve Corporation. Its main function is to sell computer games through an online distribution system. The user pays the price for the desired game and it is made available to him and is permanently available on his Steam account. He then downloads it to his computer and installs it. Purchased games can be downloaded to any computer, the only limitation is the fixation of purchased games to players unique game account. Games can be purchased one at a time or in special editions that include several games at a bargain price. Discounts are also regular, with prices for relatively new titles falling in half or less from their normal price. The Steam client periodically checks all titles purchased and if there is an update for a game, it asks the user whether to download and install it, or does it automatically. Check for updates every time the Steam client starts.

In addition to the online distribution channel, Steam is also a gaming platform through which players can play the games they buy with their friends or other players. For communication, Steam is equipped with a chat program.
